Dana Bonik

PRINCIPAL

Dana’s 25 years as a professional trader and market strategist are the product of a life-long commitment to and obsession with the practice of his craft. Inspired by his grandfather at the age of 9, Dana began investing in individual stocks. In his early adult years, he performed well enough to earn a living while meticulously learning the trading discipline. Through tedious and sometimes painful trial and error, he learned caution hands-on through his own accounts and a discipline that can only come from time in the market. He would say those years taught him his most important lessons: what NOT to do and that "news is noise." Having tried his hand in a variety of different securities, he became convinced that he needed to take a more focused approach and soon began developing strategies for trading S&P 500 index options. He has come to understand the "ways" of the S&P market beast and is remarkably comfortable and level-headed in any condition it may present.

In 1999, Dana and a partner started and grew an index options trading fund to $58M under management through 2007. Since that time, he has developed several market-beating strategies in options and ETFs. As a matter of discipline and risk management, there are certain principles he will not violate, whether in his own accounts or those he trades for others: staying in the market (the bias of the index is up), no single stock risk (sometimes they don't recover), no traditional leverage (margin calls kill accounts), and no naked options (expiration risk is real).
